First Annual World Santa Claus Congress

Since 2003, the World Santa Claus Congress, which was held in Bakken, Denmark was attended by at least one member of our Family. In 2016, our family had four generations attend this wonderful event. My father, Peter, my brother Peter, and myself were all appointed ambassadors for the World Santa Claus Congress (the only family to have three ambassadors).

The original congress in Denmark started in 1957 and was held every year up until Covid turned the world upside down. In 2022, Bakken decided to permanently cancel its funding and sponsorship of this wonderful event.

​

This event differed greatly from any school or convention. Santa’s, Mrs. Claus’s, and elves did

what they do best – spread joy, hope, and Christmas cheer to the public. We toured Copenhagen, paraded down the main street, and did a foot bath which turned into a full-body swim in the sea, followed by fun contests and parades through Bakken. With a plethora of cultures celebrating together, The World Santa Claus Congress was equally a learning experience as it was joyous.

Our dad, Peter Boxall is turning 90 in July and has always wanted to attend a World Santa Claus Congress here in Canada. So, in his honour, my brother Peter and I decided to bring this Canadian congress to fruition.
